Environmental Site Rehabilitation Lead (Field Based)

ERM has a new project-based opportunity for an experienced Environmental Site Rehabilitation Lead to assist with the management of ongoing remediation projects in the Sudbury, ON area.

This role is a 1-year term position that will provide support as an integrated member of the owner’s site rehabilitation team. It is a great opportunity to work with industry technical experts within Ontario to implement the latest investigation and remediation technologies as well as more sustainable approaches, while building strong collaborative relationships with clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safety management – implementing site safety/risk tools for all projects, site visits to ensure contractors/consultants are working safely etc.;
  • Project management support for implementation of multi-million dollar rehabilitation plans;
  • Support the development of feasibility and detailed engineering level studies;
  • Environmental support for operations (e.g., tailings deposition, dam raises/management, waste rock deposition, water management, long-term planning in support of closure plans, etc.);
  • Legal compliance – Ensure projects meet the requirements of O.Reg. 240 and the associated Mine Rehabilitation Code as well as other applicable legislation;
  • Support for the Mines/Mill ISO 14001 environmental management system (e.g., participation in audits, meetings, implementation of site rehabilitation program, etc.),
  • Oversight of research programs; and
  • Implementation of re-greening program (e.g., coordinating deliveries of compost, fertilizer, developing annual re-greening plan).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree in geology, natural/environmental science, engineering, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years’ experience, specifically within the mining industry, with progressive experience for complex remediation projects
  • Experience in implementation of environmental management systems, compliance monitoring, and management of field studies.
  • Knowledge of environmental approvals/permitting processes in Ontario.
  • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills are required. 
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
