Senior Accountant

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Analysis & Reporting, the Senior Accountant – Corporate Finance will provide support to the Corporate Reporting team in the new head office in Oakville.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accounting and financial reporting for corporate departments and holding companies
  • Lead the month-end close process for the entities above including the submission of the financial results for consolidation purposes
  • Preparation and review of account reconciliations
  • Responsible for the proper coding and ensuring proper approval of accounts payable
  • Analysis of operating costs and explanation of variances to budget
  • Preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Preparation of monthly consolidated GST/HST returns
  • Review of new leases to ensure proper accounting under IFRS 16
  • Assistance with the annual financial statement audit including preparation of note disclosures
  • Accounting for commodities and foreign exchange hedging programs including maintenance of contemporaneous hedging documentation
  • Support for ongoing financial analysis projects (purchase price accounting, goodwill impairment testing, scenario analysis)
  • Maintenance of corporate policy and systems documentation

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional accounting designation with 1 to 3 years post-qualification experience preferably in a corporate head office environment
  • Strong analytical skills combined with solid experience working with Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with financial consolidation software (e.g. HFM) and lease accounting software would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both verbal and written, and build strong working relationships with all levels within an organization
  • Ability to execute in a high demand environment while balancing multiple priorities
